What’s your general philosophy on solving problems?

Most of our work is done on an incremental basis, meaning that we use multiple shorter sessions to solve problems more smoothly and cost-effectively.

Time between sessions is valuable, allowing some or all of the following:

  1. Long computer processes can run their course.
  2. You OR we can handle matters such as:
    • research
    • item ordering
    • correspondence with third parties
  3. Any shipments can arrive.
  4. You can acquaint yourself with any adjustments made to your system.
  5. You can discover and document fresh concerns that arise.
  6. You can form your strategy for further tech work.
  7. We can schedule the next session.

Given the complexities of computer systems, after any substantial work, it’s almost guaranteed that something odd will arise in the following hours / days / weeks. That usually means there’s just more work to be done in a followup session.

What is your standard billing rate?
Our standard billing rate is $144/hr.

After your initial project at our full rate, we will discuss any potential discounts to your account (such as for individuals, families, students or non-profits). (common discounts are $12/hr off full rate) Further rate discounts can be earned by successful referrals to new clients, positive reviews online (let us know!), prepaying for a block of 10hrs, participation in maintenance programs or longterm patronage.
How are short consultations billed?
Billable labor is prorated, rounded up to the nearest 5mins.

Given that we require no retainer, to happily be there for our clients, short consultations via phone, email & text, 1min or longer, are logged on a tab (& billed when exceeding $50).

We bill in small increments, like a lawyer, just at a lot lower rate!
How are travel costs calculated?
Travel costs depend on your zip code.

For example, 02906 = $15, and East Greenwich = $90.

See Travel for your zip code.
Do you accept walk-ins without an appointment?
No, we do not accept walk-ins. All help is by appointment only.

Please visit our Booking page to schedule an appointment.
Do you repair game consoles?
Sorry, no, we do not repair game consoles. We recommend reaching out to a specialist for console repairs.
Do you repair mobile devices?
Yes, we resolve software issues on smartphones & tablets.

However, we do not perform hardware repairs for mobile devices. For iPhone battery replacements, we recommend visiting Apple.

For other repairs, you can try WeFixIt on Wickenden.
Is there a warranty on your service?
If, after some recent work with us, a problem arises that you really think we should have avoided, let us know. To know why something happened isn’t always straightforward. If we determine that:
  • an error, oversight or misjudgment on our part could have been realistically avoided
  • AND it is realistically-likely that our mistake led to a malfunction, setback or harm to you…
We will do additional work to “make it right” to the best of our ability. The work to resolve that issue and any necessary travel would be free of charge. There are situations where our responsibility for causing harm is less-certain. In those instances, we may share the burden of making things right by doing additional work at a discounted rate.
Do you offer web design or programming services?
While we do not directly offer web design or programming services, we suggest Karen Ryder.

If you need additional guidance for your particular project, feel free to book a session to discuss your options here.
Who do you recommend for graphic design & printing services?

What are your general policies?
Appointment Cancellation Policy: We require a 24-hour notice for cancellations. Failure to provide timely notice may result in a cancellation fee.
Payment Policy: For new clients, payment is due at the time of service. Most clients pay with checks or Venmo. We also accept credit cards (with a 3% surcharge), PayPal, and cash.
Data Privacy Policy: We take data privacy seriously. All client data is handled with the utmost confidentiality.
Product Warranty Policy:
  • New Parts From Us: Within 30 days of sale, we'll handle returns free of charge. After 30 days, we can usually provide purchase information that would allow you to pursue repair or replacement under warranty with manufacturer OR you can pay us at normal rates to handle the warranty process for you. Sometimes, as a courtesy, it's possible for us to give a loaner part until the original part is replaced.
  • Used Parts From Us: We customarily provide a 30, 90 or 365-day warranty of our own on used parts or systems that we refurbish & sell. Some warranties can be extended to a longer term for a little more money (usually 10-15% of the product cost). Within the warranty period, if such hardware is found to be defective, it would be replaced, repaired or refunded. Exceptions to this would be if the defect was due to mishandling or accident.
  • Software: Because there are so many ways that software can become corrupt, we cannot warranty the function of software. We can however, warranty the validity of software licenses we sell.
